NHS Trusts that receive turnaround support from consultancies have been told they will have to apply to Monitor and the NHS Trust Development Authority for approval, as well as pay for it themselves.

A letter sent to providers by Jim Mackey, head of NHS Improvement, said chief executives would have to apply for the support, which is expected to more than cover its own costs by delivering savings.
