New rules could ban major government suppliers who take part in tax-avoidance schemes from securing lucrative Whitehall contracts, ministers have announced.

New rules could ban major government suppliers who take part in tax-avoidance schemes from securing lucrative Whitehall contracts, ministers have announced.

Under proposals announced last week by chief secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, and Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude, suppliers seeking to land government contracts would have to give details of their recent tax compliance history.
