Rochdale MBC has selected Burnley BC boss Steve Rumbelow as the authority's new chief executive, following a protracted recruitment process.

Mr Rumbelow, a local government veteran with more than thirty years' experience has been chief executive at Burnley since 2006.  He was previously strategic director for Manchester City Council with oversight for housing strategy and regeneration.

Controversy has stalked the chief executive position at Rochdale since constituency MP Simon Danczuk helped organise a groundswell of local opposition to plans to raise the pay of then top officer Jim Taylor's pay by £40,000 to £170,000.
