No way to run a whelk stall

No one said managing the public finances entails easy choices, but the new Government just made it a whole lot harder for itself, says Michael Burton.

There was a time, decades ago, when Labour's left-wingers used to complain that if a Labour Government came to power, the financial markets would hobble it.

The events of the past few weeks have put the boot on the other foot, with a right-wing Conservative Government now facing the wrath of the markets.
