Local government chiefs have warned they will have just one week to scrutinise the impact of incoming police and crime commissioners (PCCs) on council tax precepts.

Under new Home Office regulations, police and crime panels – groups of councillors with responsibility for scrutinising commissioners – will be able to veto precept hikes sought by the new policing decision-makers.
