Making safeguarding everyone's business

Cllr Steve Sweeney describes the innovative work in Calderdale to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation (CSE), which is already making a difference to people’s lives

CSE is a horrendous crime with devastating impacts on young people, families and society. We all know that safeguarding children is everyone's responsibility. But how do we ensure people really do make it their business? In Calderdale, the council and our partners started work on this before the Jay report was published last year.

One priority was to ensure our frontline staff, local people and businesses were aware of CSE and knew what to do if they suspected that a young person was at risk.
