The chancellor Philip Hammond has refused to back communities secretary Sajid Javid’s pledge to borrow more cash to build homes.

The chancellor Philip Hammond has refused to back communities secretary Sajid Javid's pledge to borrow more cash to build homes.

The leader of the Lib Dems, Vince Cable, was told by Mr Hammond during questions to the chancellor in the House of Commons today that the Government was not backing a policy to borrow an additional £50bn for housebuilding.
