The Social Care Institute for Excellence has appointed Lord Bichard as its next chair. The crossbench peer will take over from Allan Bowman, who started as chair in 2006.

Lord Bichard has worked in local and central government and in a range of other roles, from chair of the Design Council to founding director of the Institute for Government and a pioneer of the Total Place programme.
