Scottish local authorities have outstripped their private sector counterparts in meeting imminent waste and recycling targets, research has revealed.

Some 29 of Scotland's 32 local authorities have already put in place dedicated recycling facilities for cans and just under three- quarters have established zero waste targets, a survey conducted by waste industry partnership Every Can Counts shows.
