Scrap all districts, says backbench Tory MP

A backbench Tory MP has called for all the district councils in England to be scrapped, as boroughs in Buckinghamshire commission a report into the future of local government in the county.

A backbench Tory MP has called for all the district councils in England to be scrapped, as boroughs in Buckinghamshire commission a report into the future of local government in the county.

In addition, the West Yorkshire MP said the number of councillors should also be reduced, with the current allowances system replaced with a fixed salary of around £37,000.
