A second council chief has announced he will switch to part-time working, following in the footsteps of Lewisham chief, Barry Quirk, who unveiled a similar deal earlier this year.

Basildon DC chief executive, Bala Mahendran, will take flexible retirement from 2013, as part of a restructure deal which the authority expects to save £700,000 over three years.
