Councillors and council staff are set to take part in a 24-hour social media marathon this Wednesday, attempting to beat last year's figures -  in which 11,000 tweets from 3,500 local government Twitter accounts reached some three million people.

Using the Twitter hashtag #OurDay, elected members and town hall employees will share their daily experiences from the start of Wednesday 26 November until the very end of the day.

The 24-hour event has been organised by the Local Government Association (LGA) and public service collaboration platform Knowledge Hub, and a toolkit is available for councils wanting to take part.
