Third sector growth outstrips rivals

Growth in the voluntary sphere has outstripped the public and private sectors during the last decade.

Growth in the voluntary sphere has outstripped the public and private sectors during the last decade, with the sector now employing 2.7% of the UK workforce.

Figures collated in the UK Voluntary Sector Almanac showed the sector employed 765,000 people in 2010, an increase of 40% since 2001. However, findings taken earlier this year indicated a marked downturn in voluntary sector employment levels since then.
