High time for the sector to start paying the price

News that the Local Government Association has awarded pay rises to its senior staff while the rest of local government faces a freeze has been greeted with a bit of ire within the senior officer ranks, writes Heather Jameson.

News that the Local Government Association (LGA) has awarded pay rises – albeit relatively small sums – to its senior staff while the rest of local government faces a freeze has been greeted with a bit of ire within the senior officer ranks.

No one would argue that the LGA staff rises were not deserved – it is just they would be equally well-deserved across local government but the association is caught between a rock and a hard place.
