Private health providers have challenged the Government's plans to develop third sector organisations and social enterprises to take over NHS work.

NHS Partners Network, the lobbying group for private providers working with the public sector, revealed just 4% of health services would be opened out for competition when primary care trusts were disbanded so that GPs could take over commissioning.
