Sector welcomes Bill to overhaul auditing

Plans for a parliamentary Bill designed to close down the Audit Commission and overhaul local government audit, outlined in the Queen's Speech, have been approved by figures from across the sector.

Plans for a parliamentary Bill designed to close down the Audit Commission and overhaul local government audit, outlined in the Queen's Speech, have been approved by figures from across the sector.

Under provisions to be contained in a draft Audit Bill, councils would appoint their own auditors on the advice of an independent panel, and establish an audit regime regulated by the Financial Reporting Council – along lines similar to private sector practice.
