Seeing glimpses of the future through the smoke

No matter how good the social care Green Paper proves to be, it won't solve all the sector's challenges - and solutions must be rooted in local communities, says chair of the Social Care Institute for Excellence, Paul Burstow.

The Budget has come and gone and the future of social care remains as uncertain as it was before the chancellor stood at the despatch box.

An extra £650 million for social care is on the table.  Of course the devil is in the detail. Up to £410 million of this extra cash is for both adult and children's social care, and is likely to be spread thin.
