The social care system could ‘fall over' if councils fail to provide enough support for people who fund their own residential care, a new report has warned.

The report by the Local Government Information Unit (LGiU), with support from insurance company Partnership, claims self-funders who run out of money and fall back on the state for support cost local authorities £425m in 2011/12.
