Three of Wirral MBC's most senior officers have been suspended in the aftermath of a highly critical report into the award of a multi-million pound highways contract.

In dramatic developments, acting Wirral chief executive Ian Coleman, finance director David Taylor-Smith and director of law Bill Norman were ordered not to return to work until a council investigation is undertaken.
