Seven northern local authorities are expected to share a £43m windfall after Newcastle International Airport announced a major refinancing deal.

The airport confirmed last week it had negotiated a new £233m loan facility with a consortium of international banks, which will reduce the overall amount of interest it has to pay out each year.
