Seven Ways to 'Fix' £billions of Government Grant Money

Over eight years the local government funding formula has shifted money from poor to rich, from North to South, from inner to outer London and from urban to rural areas, says Cllr Graham Chapman. ‘The poorer the area the more it has lost.’

George Osbourne was so wrong. We have never been 'all in it together'. The poor have paid disproportionately for the recession. However one of the biggest contributions the poor have made has  gone unnoticed.

It is via the changes to the local government grant system. This has not happened simply as a result of the aggregate cuts to local government.  More still, it is from the distribution of those cuts.
