Shadow Chancellor Anneliese Dodds has called for an emergency Budget in the summer with greater support for sectors worst hit by the coronavirus lockdown.
Ms Dodds, who took on her post in April, said an emergency Budget should focus on increasing training and preventing unemployment including extending the furlough grant scheme beyond its current October deadline. She also criticised ministers for not aligning the relaxation of the lockdown with the reduction in the furlough scheme and for applying a ‘one size fits all' approach to all sectors when some were worse hit than others.
