Sharing the success

A streamlined way of providing back office support at Haringey LBC has allowed the organisation to deliver savings, innovative solutions to operational issues and better services for its residents. Mark Rudd explains how it works

The Shared Service Centre (SSC) has been at the heart of Haringey's drive to become a more efficient and effective council, with an ambitious financial target to achieve a £2.9m saving over the next three years.

Just over a year ago, back office support was made up of five functional but very separate services – finance (including accounts payable), information technology, revenues, benefits and human resources.
