Britain loves its seaside. While we take holidays abroad for the sun, we still enjoy our times by the seaside. So, our Lords' Seaside Regeneration Select Committee took the view that coastal towns should be celebrated as places that play host and home to millions, as they have since the Victorian and Edwardian eras. But we want to see regeneration with a modern twist, simply being nostalgic won't work.
We hope that, if our recommendations are pursued by Government, many of the struggling places can be set on a course to a successful future. Our ambition for seaside towns is to make them prosperous and desirable places to live and visit.
