SIGOMA highlights local government finance 'imbalance'

Urban councils have warned they may be unable to deliver key services to poor, high-need areas without changes to the local government finance system.

Urban councils have warned they may be unable to deliver key services to poor, high-need areas without changes to the local government finance system.

A report this week by the Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities (SIGOMA) argued the system took little account of whether councils had enough money to provide ‘vital services at the necessary level to meet residents' needs'.
