Sir Merrick calls for local government lead in tackling dementia

LGA chairman seeks to enlist committed support of all councils in helping people with dementia live independent lives.

Chairman of the Local Government Association, Sir Merrick Cockell, has written to all council leaders in England and Wales seeking their support in a nationwide campaign to tackle dementia – which is set to cost the public purse £27bn annually by 2018.

In the letter Sir Merrick asks council chiefs to join his own personal commitment to become a Dementia Friend.
