Skills are the missing link

Alexandra Jones argues that the Government is missing a key piece of the puzzle in its drive to address growth and prosperity inequalities.

One of the key themes of the Autumn Statement was the need to address what chancellor Phillip Hammond described as the ‘damaging imbalance' in economic growth and prosperity across the country.

In particular, Mr Hammond's pledge to tackle the UK's productivity gap by launching a £23bn ‘productivity investment fund' focused on innovation, broadband and transport infrastructure – which, if tailored to different cities and city regions could help tackle the UK's ongoing productivity problem.
