Slough goes back to basics for financial health

There are no quick fixes to Slough’s financial problems, but the council is committed to achieving the improvements residents have every right to expect, says Steve Mair.

There is a saying: ‘Sometimes you have to get knocked down lower than you have ever been to stand back up taller than you ever were'.

For Slough BC, in the last year, the council has been at the lowest point in its history, following an initial capitalisation request to Government in March, a subsequent worsening financial position, ongoing challenges arising from COVID and two critical reports by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Chartered Institute for Public Finance and Accountancy.
