Slough slams 'unreliable' population projections

The Government is using inadequate population projections when calculating local government grant distributions and failing to sufficiently fund Slough borough, the council claims.

In 2001, Slough's population grew by 14%, and was the 13th fastest-growing council in the country. However, census returns were low at 86%, and the council believes there is a possibility this growth underestimated the true population of Slough. And, despite ONS estimations that the population was on the decline, the council claimed local data such as electoral register, housing stock, school rolls and service pressures all suggest strong growth.
