Slow growth in equality

Jackie Barker, editor of the Municipal Year Book analyses its latest gender survey which, for the first time, covers all senior officers as well as councillors and chief executives.

The Municipal Year Book (MYB) has just conducted its annual gender survey for councillors and chief executives, based on information in the newly-published 2006 edition. In addition to these established surveys, a new gender survey has been conducted for all officers listed in the directory, and has been used to establish the gender split across local government based on region, function and council type.
