We have put up with poor standards for too long

The new Government approach strikes a different tone, says Graeme McDonald.

The tone has changed. Headlines heralding a decade of devolution and multi-year financial settlements have appeared with little scepticism. Even the return of compulsory housing targets has been met with muted concern.

Within the Palace of Westminster, both Government and Opposition are talking up public service and mutual respect.
