Social care feels the squeeze on staffing

Two major reports last week have highlighted the chronic shortage of adult care staff which is expected to worsen as overseas recruits fall away due to the government clampdown on lower skilled immigrants.

Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show adult social care has the second largest percentage of job vacancies across the public sector after the NHS. Despite an increase in the number of care staff, numbers have failed to match rising demand as the nation's population ages.
