SOLACE president calls for 'one-step' reorganisation

Local government reorganization could be completed in ‘one step' to avoid a repeat of the 1990s review,a conference heard this week.

SOLACE president, Byron Davies, chief executive of Cardiff CC, told an MJ conference:‘Councils should look ahead at the next decade's challenges and get the changes right in one step.'

David Rossington, director of local democracy and empowerment, DCLG said there were no plans ‘at present' for further reorganisation, but added: ‘Status quo in areas without new unitaries is not an option.'
