Solihull and Greater Birmingham LEP launch masterplan

Solihull MBC and the Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP anounce proposals to create 100,000 new jobs.

Solihull MBC and the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership have launched a masterplan to create 100,000 new jobs.

The UK Central masterplan aims to boost the national gross domestic product by as much as £19.5bn by creating jobs and economic growth around the NEX and Birmingham Airport.

The plan was commissioned by Solihull MBC and the LEP and includes a number of measures, including targeted investment to facilitate the growth of the airport and Birmingham Business Park.

It also proposes the create of a delivery vehicle called UKC Limited, which will deliver specific schemes.

‘UK Central represents one of the most economic opportunities for the city region, wider West Midlands and the UK as a whole,' said Solihull MBC leader, Cllr Ken Meeson.

‘It's position at the heart of the UK transport networks and existing strengths as a growing centre for advanced engineering, high-value manufacturing and tourism, combined with major assets, such as Birmingham Airport, the National Exhibition Centre and the home of Jaguar Land Rover already make it one of the UK's premier business locations.'
