SOCIAL CARE

The sound of silence

The history of attempts to achieve joined-up health and social care reads like a bad songbook for people of a certain age, says Martin Farrow.

Whether you are a fan or not, Simon and Garfunkel remain one of the music industry's most iconic partnerships. Individually, they both had their own specific talents but they looked at things in slightly different ways. However, as a collective, as a team, they were much stronger and aligned.

Hall and Oates, Lennon and McCartney, Sam and Dave, Laurel and Hardy: all better together than apart. While trying hard not to refer to and link one of Laurel and Hardy's most famous quotes to health and social care funding and strategic alignment (yes, it is tempting and yes, you are already ahead of me), the synergies of partnership working resonate, not only in delivery but critically in the planning stage as well.
