Eileen Howat has stepped up to the top role at South Ayrshire Council, having served with the authority since its creation in 1996.

Ms Howat has been an executive director at the authority since 2008 where she led the resources, governance and organisation directorate.  Previous roles at South Ayrshire include assistant chief executive, head of finance and ICT.

South Ayrshire leader, Cllr Bill McIntosh, who chaired the recruitment panel, said the appointment is a strong one for the authority.

‘Eileen brings a wealth of experience and skills which will be invaluable in guiding the Council through the challenges which lie ahead, said Cllr McIntosh.

Eileen Howat said:  ‘This is a challenging time for all local authorities but I believe if we work together effectively,  we will deliver the best outcomes for local residents, communities and businesses. I am very much looking forward to playing my part in that agenda as chief executive."
