Beleaguered care home firm Southern Cross is to be shut down after plans to save the company broke down.

Bosses at the business had hoped talks with landlords would lead to continued operations, prior to a decision by the group of landlords to back out of negotiations to cut rents by 30%, which has resulted in the firm facing the axe.
