We will spell out the benefits delivered by districts' wellbeing services

We need a long term strategy that revitalises leisure and wellbeing services to level up the health of the nation and place them firmly within Integrated Care Systems, says Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen.

January is a time of new resolutions and good intentions. Few things epitomise that more than the sight of people flocking to their local gym or leisure centre to get active and burn off the Christmas pounds.

Of course, last year that didn't happen. Leisure centres were closed during lockdown. This had two big impacts. First, on the many people who benefit from the range of health and wellbeing services our leisure centres offer. And, second, on the long-term financial viability of these vital services.
