Spending cuts blame game shifting, pollsters claim

Public opinion still blames Labour for public service cuts, but Coalition increasingly in the firing line, Ipsos MORI poll shows.

The public blames Labour for public service cuts – more than the coalition or the banks, according to pollsters Ipsos MORI.

However, the blame is shifting towards the government, with 21% of people questioned blaming the coalition, compared with 10% who blamed them in March 2011.

Relatively few people – just 4% of those surveyed blame councils.

The number of people blaming Labour for the cuts has fallen to 26% from 31%, while those blaming the global economy rose from 18% to 21% in the same period.
