Since the financial crisis, local authorities have seen record cuts to their funding. Despite Theresa May's assertion at the Conservative Party conference, that austerity will draw to a close after Brexit, there will be little comfort to cash-strapped councils. Between 2010 and 2020, the sector will have faced a £16bn cut in core funding, according to figures from the Local Government Association (LGA).
