The standards framework – are watchdog's concerns justified?

Paul Hoey examines fears on local standards arrangements raised in the Committee on Standards in Public Life's annual report.

 When the standards provisions of the Localism Act were in the House of Lords, a series of cross-party amendments were put down expressing concern at the Government's proposals.

Particular concerns were about a lack of effective sanctions for serious wrongdoing, and the removal of independent local adjudication.
