An early start is vital

The argument for early intervention sounds straightforward, writes Alison Michalska, but the difficulties lie in evidencing that it is working.

‘Prevention is better than cure,' the saying goes.

If we prioritise spend on early intervention and preventative services so that children and their families are supported earlier before problems worsen and reach crisis point, we could reduce demand on more costly and invasive interventions at a later stage.
