Stay on holiday, Mr Cameron, we'll be fine

The sense that government is not really in control is part of a wider malaise among voters, says Michael Burton.

It may have been a slow news day but on Bank Holiday Monday this week virtually every national newspaper carried a front-page picture of the Camerons on holiday in Ibiza enjoying a coffee and mineral water (nothing as frivolous as alcohol).

The inference was that here was the Prime Minister ducking his duties while the nation was wracked by terrorism, that we, his people, were being left in the lurch.
