Stopping homelessness before it starts in Hounslow

Cllr Lily Bath outlines Hounslow LBC's preventative model for tackling homelessness and rough sleeping – and the creation of My Independence as a new joint venture between statutory homelessness services and health and social care.

People's perception of homelessness is often focused on the people who are on the streets. But it's something much wider than that. Like many local authorities, with austerity continuing and financial uncertainty, our housing services are facing unprecedented pressures, with demand for both permanent and temporary accommodation exceeding supply.

However, Hounslow Council is determined to continue to help the most vulnerable in our borough, which is why we have been focusing our efforts on tackling and preventing homelessness and rough sleeping.
