Stopping the secret subsidy

The new Care Bill will shine a light on the problems of residential care funding, writes Janet Morrison

While there's widespread support for the new Care Bill it's becoming increasingly clear that it will also shine a light on some of the underlying problems of how residential care is funded.

And unless these issues are addressed there could be serious consequences for local authorities, care homes and service users.

These problems all stem from the fundamental issue of the price being paid by councils for the care home places that they fund. The problem is that it's not enough.
