Over the years, former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher has had his fair share of critics – including those that shelled out for their over-rated third album – but his claims that he could be Greater Manchester's mayor have been rebuffed by city council leader, Sir Richard Leese.

The veteran rocker said he was up for the role of ‘Mayor of Manchester' following the publication of Russell Brand's latest book, Revolution.
