The civil servant in charge of Downing Street has become embroiled in the Southern Cross care home crisis.

Jeremy Heywood, permanent secretary to the prime minister's office was co-head of UK investment banking division at Morgan Stanley during the flotation of the now troubled firm in 2006. He worked for the investment bank during a three-year break from the civil service between 2004 and 2007.
