Streets ahead in Southend

Southend BC chose to deliver a tailored approach to its troubled families programme and reaped great benefits from a truly innovative community engagement programme, writes Jonathan Werran

The coalition's flagship Troubled Families programme is targeted at the estimated 120,000 chaotic households blighted with complex, generation-spanning problems, that cost the taxpayer an average of £75,000 a year to deal with.

Every town has families that use a disproportionate amount of public sector resources.
