Strengthening the safety net

Wakefield Council has had to adjust its approach to tackling the challenge of rising homelessness and this approach has been yielding strong results, as Steve Turnbull explains

Finding effective ways to support people who face homelessness is a significant challenge for local authorities.

In Wakefield we're not immune and have seen a significant increase in recent years in the numbers of people seeking help for homelessness, with a 132% increase in demand for our services between 2019 and 2024.
