Strike tensions fuel crunch pensions talks

Ministers and union leaders to hold talks on pension reforms ahead of planned strike action.

Ministers and union leaders are today holding crunch talks on pension reforms ahead of planned strike action involving up to 750,000 civil servants, teachers and lecturers this Thursday.

In a sign of increased tensions, ministers have briefed journalists that public funding of union officials may be reviewed.Education secretary Michael Gove has also warned teachers that industrial action may serve to lower the public's respect to the profession.
